Baiting A Hook - Be A Little Smarty & Use The Basics In Your Own Way!

Baiting a hook needs a lot of smartness and as we all know, all our fishing adventures depends on how successfully we can catch a fish. Needless to mention, you need to carry the equipment for angling according to the type of fish that you are planning to bait. Your own skills and experiences will add on to it and you will come out as a winner all throughout. Here are few basic tips about how to bait a hook. Hopefully next time whenever you are out for fishing, these tips will make the adventure a little more alluring one.

Sharpness of the Hook
Whenever you bait a hook you should always make the hook as sharp as possible. Sharpening your hooks often with a hook sharpener is a good practice or you can also change your hook often while fishing. This practice will come handy if you fish in areas where your bait and your hooks are hitting bottom of the water. Even if these are hitting the other underwater debris like while doing drift fishing in rivers, sharp bait is what makes it easier to handle. Thus it is advisable to always do the best to keep your hooks as sharp as possible.

A Natural Presentation
Presenting the bait in the most natural way is the trick to catch a fish that you really have set your heart on.  For example, if you are catching with live worms, then gang hooks are a great way to present your bait in the most natural way possible. We should not forget that at the end of the day making our bait look as natural as possible is very important when it comes to bait a hook for fishing.

The Size of the Hook
Many anglers use fishing hooks that are much larger than they need to carry. This practice is popular among the anglers who fish with live worms. They use a large hook and attempt to "thread" their worm onto said hook, rather than using a set of gang hooks. The same theory is true for other types of baits as well. But interestingly, you can use very small hooks to catch very large fishes as well. Fly fishermen are the perfect example of the statement as they use small hooks to catch large fishes. It is advisable to use hooks as small as possible when fishing with any type of bait as it convenient & practical.

The Scents on Your Hands
As I’ve said earlier baiting a hook needs a lot of smartness. So a smart angler should watch out if he is having special scents on his/her hands. Because any scents that might be on your hands can transfer to the bait you are using. And this may cost you high as the fishes can catch these special smells easily. For this reason your hands should be made free from any deviant scents before touching your fishing bait. This can be simply done by rubbing your hands with a handful of earth before baiting up.
