A 2lb 15oz Perch

For few days I was catching a decent number of 2lb+ perch. It has been a time that I dint tried something big and decided to go for a slightly different kind of challenge.  That was the time when perch fish becomes popular. To make the catch a little more interesting, I’ve decided to use fly fishing technique.

As I was not that proficient in the technique, I asked one if my friends to help me out who happens to be a fly fishing instructor. I tied the fly onto a size 2 Nash Fang hooks and it was looking really good. I should have really taken some photos of them before I started destroying them by hurling them into undergrowth and such like!
I decided to use my Fox Predator XS fly rod. This is a special one and I bought it when it was on offer a couple of years ago. It’s been gathering dust since, just begging for me to get around to using it.  I attached a Greys GRXi large-arbour fly reel on the rod which was loaded with clear sinking line. Further, I have also used a "Rio Toothy Critter" leader, which has a coated wire trace section at the tippet.

After all those preparations, it took me fairly a long time to get a perch on my hook. Anyway, after an hour of fluff-chucking and I only managed a single take only. But it was from a big perch - my biggest of 2010 so far in fact. It is of 2lb 15oz of fry-eating, fly-crunching, prime Summer stripey!
