Last time we (my family & me) went to Washington City to enjoy a holiday. No doubt we enjoyed the trip at the fullest. Among all the visits, our outing to the Lake Elmo (near Minnesota) was a distinguish one. We camped on its bank and I was hoping to do some float tubing on the lake at our campground, but circumstances prevented me from doing that. Latter I decided to go for shore fishing instead just before we left.
My family was not so keen for the adventure, visibly, as they dint wanted to leave the comforts of the campground. And accordingly, my wife dropped me off at the fishing pier while she and the kids went to the man-made lake on the grounds. I was willing to do some wading, so I took an opening which had less brush to walk through. As I waded out into the lake with my swim shoes, the sand gave way significantly. I had to tumble a lot to throw my line as it was heard to even stand still on the muddy and slippery sand of the shore.
But I was optimistic enough and dint wanted to give up so easily. A boat was there just a few feet away from me, so I knew fishes were there.
I was casting continuously and walked out a bit further this time to cast beyond the weed line. I wasn’t getting any action so I wanted to change lures, but it was reeled in too far. Instead of pulling the line back, I casted one more time to the right length. A few feet in, I thought I felt a couple of ticks, so I paused and set the hook. But then the line didn’t move. I couldn’t budge it. I didn’t know if I could walk all the way out to the weed line, so I pulled hard to get the line loose. I pulled in a mass of weeds. But as I was about to pull it off, I saw a fish hiding in it and it was already stuck into my line.
I waved to my family, and was rolling back the line to grab the catch. My son came running to help me and it took us quite a lot of loss of sweats to actually bring the fish nearer to the shore. The catch was strong and the weeds were all the more bugging us. Then I gave the line to my son’s hand and went closer to the weeds, grabbed the fish from back and finally made it mine. And here the lesson that I learnt is that, sometimes the pain that you take for you own pleasures, are worth it, till you not give up the faith upon yourself. I came back with smiles all the way and my family was happier.
