Fishing Reels - Know The One You Are Using

A fishing reel is a special mechanism that comes with an axle which is used in deployment and retrieval of a fishing line using a spool. Over the period of time, anglers have come up with various types of fishing reels and have employed various advanced technologies to them too. Although fishing reels are usually used manually by the fishermen, but there are some reels that are directly attached with the boat. Accordingly, fishing reels are classified into two types: conventional and fixed-spool reels. Conventional reels are those which carry revolving spools and are widely-used in saltwater fishing. On the other hand, fixed-spool reels, as the name implies, have immobile spools. Broadly these reels are classified in three types: Baitcasting, Spinning, and Spincasting.

Baitcasting Reel
Baitcasting fishing reel is a conventional one and it is so small that it fits easily in to the angler's hand while mounted on the fishing rod. This type of fishing reel is ideal for catching the bigger freshwater fish and small saltwater fish. A baitcasting fishing reel creates good sensitivity in the movement at the fishing line's end. But you need to remember that baitcasting reel is inaccessible in ultra-light lines and on backlash tangles. Until and unless you are well acquainted with all the techniques of this fishing reel, you should not go out fishing with it, as casting baitcasting fishing reel is a relatively hard job.

Spinning Reel
The most commonly-used fishing reel by the anglers across the world is the spinning reel. It is a type of fixed-spool reel, wherein the housing around the stationary spool is parallel to the rod's axis. And the spool spins around it at a turn of the handle. As the spinning produces a spinning casting technique, it is called as a spinning reel. Since the spool is fixed, there's no way you can have a backlash. Spinning fishing reels are available in various sizes and weight, starting from ultra-light to medium & heavy sizes. Unlike baitcasting reels, spinning reels are less sensitive and are comparatively bulky in nature.  Considering the larger sizes and the heavy lure and bait attached, these reels need a lot of strength to handle.

Spincasting Reel
Spincasting reel is an interesting fishing reel and is basically seen as a combination of a conventional and a stationary reel. Spincasting reels are very angler-friendly and these are so easy to use that a beginner or even a child can operate them. These types of reels come with a push button through which one can operate the reel. This is the reason why spincasting fishing reels are also named as pushbutton reels. But this type of reel comes with a short coming as spincasting reels are the least sensitive as far as the movement at the end of the fishing line is concerned. Moreover, one cannot really totally control the lure or the fish.
