Free Boating Forum In Perth

The Australia New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group (ANZSBEG) will be hosting a free Recreational Boating Forum on Wednesday 25 August at the Burswood Entertainment Complex in Perth as part of the Marine Safety Conference to address key issues facing the industry. The Forum - free for conference delegates and the local boating industry - will examine topics such as maritime communications, hoon legislation for recreational boats and community education.

National Marine Safety Committee (NMSC) CEO and conference organiser Margie O’Tarpey said there are over 1.5 million recreational craft in Australia and New Zealand. “The prevalence of recreational craft means that it is important that we address emerging issues and educate the boating public on these issues to keep our waterways safe,” she said. “Disturbingly, there has been an upward trend in fatalities from boating accidents in the last few years, and an annual average of 49 fatalities for the 2001-2009 period is unacceptably high.”
