Discovering Walpole Of Southern West Australia – A Destination To Set You Free

Last weekend, my family and I were busy exploring the Walpole WA of Southern West Australia. Just an hour and a half drive to the west of Albany on the southern coast, Walpole is a well-placed base to explore the region. We find it as an idyllic place for a relaxing getaway. The area is too beautiful to be true, surrounded by national parks and state forests. The tranquil rivers and inlet offers world-class fishing, canoeing, white-water rafting, bushwalking, power boating and sailing. The weather was beautiful and the day was perfect for an outing. The place was so mesmerizing that we decided to roam around and dig into various other aspects of this paradise for anglers.

Locals made us amazed when they informed that the Walpole WA was established in 1930's and initially it was dedicated to a group settlement for farmers. The town sits on the magnificent Walpole Inlet that flows into the Southern Ocean. To our delight we also discovered that anyone can even go for an exhilarating four wheel drive along the sandy beach there. And certainly, if you are there, you should not miss the 400 years old red and yellow tingle trees at Walpole's Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk and the Ancient Empire grove.

Later we explored the forest on Hilltop Road and stroll along the trail to the Giant Red Tingle Tree, rising 70 meters from the ground. Before starting the main venture, fishing, for what we were there for, we took out some time to paddle the rivers in a canoe. Couple of days is two less to discover the Walpole for sure, so all you fishing enthusiast out there, try to take a bit more time in your hands and try to pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We discovered an incredible photo stop is Circular Pool, in the Frankland River.

We discovered fishing spots and took some locals for our trip. It was superbly exciting to experience water rushes over granite rocks. Our boat tumbled a bit at a bend in the river that formed a large dramatic swirling whirlpool. It was more exciting then scary. The water is blessed with watery wealth and it’s a heaven for fishos who crave for Barramundi, Flathead, Cobbler, Queensland Lungfish etc. The day was wonderful, birds were plentiful including sea eagles, pelicans and scarlet western rosellas.

The day turned out to be real fruitful one for us. We managed to grab plenty of tunas. While I've even managed to hook one cobbler too. Overall, it was a delightful trip. And exploring a new place is always fun. My family was extremely happy and I love it most when a fishing trip brings smiles in faces. Walpole WA has made me happy all the way and I am more than sure that am going to go back there to explore something even newer soon.
