Abbott Woos Tourism Vote
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has used a visit to the Great Barrier Reef tourist capital of Cairns to announce that a Coalition government would spend an extra $90 million to help attract visitors to Travel Australia.
Cairns is in the Labor-held seat of Leichhardt, which is one of the marginal Queensland seats being targeted by the Coalition. Mr Abbott was on the hustings there on the day a Newspoll showed the Coalition gaining ground to be level with Labor in the two-party preferred standings.
Meeting with the owners and staff of a Great Barrier Reef ferry service, Mr Abbott briefly took over the captain's seat of a catamaran. "You make me feel very powerful, sitting up here," he joked. "[But] I don't want to get ahead of myself by sitting in the top chair too soon." The package includes a $40 million fund that would provide grants of up to $100,000 to build infrastructure for tourism projects.
Another $14 million fund would provide grants to tourism organizations in regional areas. Mr Abbott said Australia's tourism industry had been in the doldrums and Labor was partly to blame. "The spending that we announce today is about sustaining and protecting the 500,000 jobs in tourism," he said. "About protecting and sustaining this very important sector upon which so many Australians depend for their livelihood." Mr Abbott has also repeated his pledge to overturn the Queensland Government's Wild Rivers laws if elected.

Discovering Walpole Of Southern West Australia – A Destination To Set You Free
Last weekend, my family and I were busy exploring the Walpole WA of Southern West Australia. Just an hour and a half drive to the west of Albany on the southern coast, Walpole is a well-placed base to explore the region. We find it as an idyllic place for a relaxing getaway. The area is too beautiful to be true, surrounded by national parks and state forests. The tranquil rivers and inlet offers world-class fishing, canoeing, white-water rafting, bushwalking, power boating and sailing. The weather was beautiful and the day was perfect for an outing. The place was so mesmerizing that we decided to roam around and dig into various other aspects of this paradise for anglers.
